We worked with Dr. Jon Davey to design a program that connected his students with environmentally conscious NGOs in the Dominican Republic. Through hands-on fieldwork and transcultural collaboration, his students got the experience of building structures with locals who would go on to use them.

Course objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

– Describe the architecture of the indigenous peoples of the Dominican Republic

– Describe the architecture of early colonial-era Dominican Republic

– Describe the changes in culture and architecture in the Dominican Republic after the arrival of African slaves

– Demonstrate a proficiency in architectural sketching

– Demonstrate a proficiency in architectural watercoloring

– Complete a daily architectural/cultural log of experiences
