    Spend the day investigating the ruins of Empúries, an ancient town whose mark was left on the Mediterranean coast of Catalonia. There are three main archeological sites, each home to over two thousand years of remains that have yet to be unearthed. First settled in 575 B.C., the colony has seen both Greek and Roman influences, and is teeming with necropolises and acropolises that tell the tale of early civilization.
